Nabiha Islam Medicine Professional Corporation.
Established by Dr. Nabiha Islam through her professional corporation, this endowed fund supports three areas close to her life’s work: healthcare, education, and the care of elders, widows and orphans. The principal is invested and kept in perpetuity, and the annual returns are granted to charitable work in these fields, every year, forever.
Dr. Islam completed medical school and residency at the University of Toronto and practises Internal Medicine at the Scarborough Health Network. She provides care to Indigenous communities in the Northwest Territories and Nunavut, where she has seen the difference made by MWC’s Arctic Food Banks.
Her work has also taken her to refugee camps and conflict zones: the Syrian-Jordanian and Syrian-Lebanese borders, the Venezuelan-Colombian border, the island of Lesvos in Greece, the Bulgarian-Turkish and Bosnian-Croatian borders, northern Pakistan, and camps for internally displaced people in Yemen. She has given the most time to the Rohingya refugee camps in Bangladesh, where in 2017 she was one of only a few physicians serving in the early days of the crisis, in the aftermath of genocide.
This fund carries that commitment forward, so that care for the sick, the young and the vulnerable continues for generations.
