Olive Tree Foundation Awards Scholarships for 2023

The Olive Tree Foundation has awarded two high school students from the Toronto neighbourhood of Regent Park with scholarships for their academic achievements and leadership abilities.

Waseelah Abubakar was awarded the Faisal Ali Scholarship Award and Shamiq Rahman  was awarded the Mohamed and Opheera Nasir Scholarship Award.

Both students are volunteers in the Regent Park community.

Waseelah Abubakar is a Jarvis Collegiate Institute student and she will be attending Sheridan College in the Fall.

“Parents, teachers and role models support students in their quest for higher learning not only physically but also mentally by being there for them when their plans go south, supporting them when their grades may not be the highest and simply being the inspiration in a student’s life,” says Waseelah Abubakar.

Shamiq Rahman is a City Adult Learning Centre (CALC) student and will be attending York University in the Fall.

“Parents, teachers and mentors support students in their quest for higher learning by providing a supportive environment, setting high expectations, offering mentorship, encouraging curiosity and critical thinking, academic support and celebrating academic achievements and progress by congratulating and surprising students with gifts of success,” adds Shamiq Rahman.
