Her Final Gift to the Community:  Professor Hind Al-Abadleh's Legacy Bequest

There is no more powerful way to express faith in the future than to secure your impact beyond your lifetime.

Professor Hind Al-Abadleh (1977–2025), a brilliant Canadian Muslim scientist, did exactly that.

Though she was taken from us far too early in January of this year, she made the ultimate choice: a generous bequest to the Olive Tree Foundation in her will, ensuring her commitment to community continued.

This deliberate act of legacy giving defines her enduring commitment to the Canadian Muslim community and offers a clear, powerful blueprint for every donor.

"When I think of Professor Hind Al-Abadleh, I don’t just recall the world-class scientist, I think of a friend,” said Muneeb Nasir, Chair of Olive Tree Foundation. “She was a powerful and reliable supporter of the Olive Tree Foundation, and our friendship grew through thoughtful conversations in the Muslim Presence Collective reading circle and through many community projects."

Excellence and Compassion Endure

Professor Al-Abadleh’s professional life was a testament to the seamless integration of excellence and compassion.

Her journey began in the United Arab Emirates, where she graduated as one of the country’s top high school students.

She earned her undergraduate degree at United Arab Emirates University, followed by a PhD in physical chemistry at the University of Iowa and a postdoctoral fellowship at Northwestern University.

She immigrated to Canada in 2004 and proudly became a citizen in 2009.

For nearly two decades, from 2005 to 2024, she was a beloved professor at Wilfrid Laurier University.

There, she built a thriving research program in environmental physical chemistry, tackling urgent issues related to air quality and public health.

Her dedication earned her numerous accolades, including the 2023 Hoffman-Little Award for teaching, the 2021 University Research Professor Award, and the Gilead Award for Excellence in Equity, Diversity and Inclusion from the Canadian Society for Chemistry.

Her legacy was built on mentorship, integrity, and the conviction that science must always serve humanity.

Her bequest established the Professor Hind Al-Abadleh Endowment Fund

This Fund is far more than a memorial; it is a permanent financial engine designed to perpetually fund community efforts in the areas that defined her service.

As we witnessed firsthand, Dr. Al-Abadleh's vision was expansive.

"Our collaboration spanned initiatives close to her heart—from fostering vital discussions in Indigenous and interfaith relations and driving awareness on environmental issues to tackling difficult questions around gender-based violence,” added Muneeb Nasir. “The establishment of her Fund ensures these values will be continuously supported."

“By making this final gift, Hind ensured her vision—that knowledge and compassion should perpetually uplift the world—will continue to thrive through the Olive Tree Foundation for generations.”

Your Legacy: An Enduring Echo

Professor Al-Abadleh’s example is a poignant challenge to all of us.

While we are adept at making immediate gifts, the long-term sustainability of institutions like the Olive Tree Foundation rests on the long-term commitment of legacy giving.

A gift in your will—a bequest—is the single most transformative way to guarantee that the work you care about continues.

It is an act of Sadaqa Jariyah that requires no money today but secures your most cherished values tomorrow.

It is a powerful, final statement of your personal mission.

Just as Dr. Hind Al-Abadleh planned to ensure her values would remain funded, you too can decide what matters most to you.

By including the Olive Tree Foundation in your estate plans, you are weaving your values into the durable fabric of the community’s future.

Honour her memory by supporting her Endowment Fund today, and more importantly, join her in securing your own legacy.

Your foresight will ensure that the institutions built today will have the necessary resources to meet the needs of tomorrow.

Your legacy, like hers, is waiting to be written.
