Olive Tree Foundation Supports Nisa Foundation Program to Help Imams Address Domestic Violence
Olive Tree Foundation has provided a grant to Nisa Foundation to expand its Community Leaders Workshops to help Imams address domestic violence
The program aims to train Imams across Canada to support families dealing with domestic and gender-based violence, using approaches that are both culturally sensitive and grounded in Islamic principles.
Building on a successful pilot program, the workshops will train 50 Imams who will then lead full-day sessions in their communities.
Participants will also hear from legal experts, social workers, and law enforcement, and receive certificates and ongoing professional development.
“This program gives Imams the tools to guide their communities safely and confidently,” said Nawal Vajeed, Nisa Foundation’s Grants and Government Relations Lead. “It helps break the stigma around domestic violence and promotes safer, healthier families.”
Workshops are set to start in December 2025 and continue across major Canadian cities through 2026.
The Nisa Foundation welcomes the support of the Olive Tree Foundation for this important project.
