Sheik and Shariema Khan
Family Fund
Together, we can create a lasting legacy of learning, service, and support for the Toronto Islamic community.
The Sheik and Shariema Khan Family Fund reflects the lifelong commitment of Sheik and Shariema Khan to nurturing and enriching the Islamic community in Toronto and beyond. Their passion for philanthropy is rooted in a deep belief in giving back, fostering community, and embodying compassion.
Sheik Khan has long been a dedicated presence in the community, supporting local mosques and organizations such as Jami Mosque, the Islamic Foundation of Toronto, and the Islamic Institute of Toronto. Whether helping to organize iftars, preparing meals in the kitchen, or staying late to clean up after gatherings, he brings warmth, humility, and selflessness to every space he enters.
Shariema Khan has been a tireless advocate for Muslims, particularly in the years following 9/11. Through op-eds in outlets like the Toronto Star and her candid conversations with politicians, she has spoken out against Islamophobia and defended the dignity of the Muslim community. A lifelong student of Islamic knowledge, her journey began in Guyana, where as a young woman she taught Qur’anic classes to local youth—planting seeds of faith and learning that continue to inspire her to this day.
Together, Sheik and Shariema have consistently supported community needs through volunteering, charity, and personal involvement. In the 1990s, they assisted Kosovar refugees, and more recently, they helped sponsor Syrian families, extending their care and compassion to those seeking safety and dignity.
The Sheik and Shariema Khan Family Fund stands as a testament to their enduring dedication to building a stronger, more vibrant Islamic community in Toronto. Through this endowment, they are ensuring lasting support for the institutions and initiatives that will empower future generations.
