Granting Guidelines and Procedure
To be eligible to receive a grant from the Foundation a project must be submitted by an organization holding charitable registration with Canada Customs and Revenue Agency or sponsored by an organization with charitable registration. The Olive Tree Foundation provides grants of varying amounts as determined by the Board of Directors and its Grants Committee, based on available funds and the potential value of the proposed initiative to the community.
What will be funded
Projects that fall within the following fields of interest
- Social, Community and Health Services
- Education and Library Services
- Policy Institutes and Think Tanks
- Arts, Culture and Heritage
Grants Committee
The Grants Committee will be established made up of Board members and members from the community. Each year the committee will adjust the number of members to fit its needs as directed by the Board, never being less than three members.
The Grants Committee responsibilities include:
- Have overall responsibility for the granting function of the foundation
- Consider the granting criteria of the Olive Tree Foundation annually and make recommendations to the Board for consideration and approval
- Make recommendations to the Board, after consultation with the Treasurer and the Finance/Investment Committee, on the total dollar amount to be disbursed to approved applicants each year
- Determine annually and recommend to the Board priorities for giving based on a community needs assessment
- consider all grant applications which qualify under the Foundation’s granting criteria and make recommendations to the Board for approval or rejection
Granting process
Stage One - Letter of Intent/Project Introduction
- Submit a letter of intent and complete the Project Introduction Form.
- The Grants Committee will review applicant’s letter of intent and ‘Project Introduction Form’ for basic eligibility and relationship to OTF’s objectives and priorities.
Stage Two - Grant Application
- Eligible project proponents will be invited to submit a grant application.
- The Grants Committee will then consider the application and make a recommendation to the Board.
Stage Three - Grant Awarded
Grants based on available funds and the potential value of the proposed initiative to the community.
Stage Four - After a Grant Has Been Awarded
Olive Tree Foundation expects the following from grant recipients
1. Approval from the Olive Tree Foundation prior to any alterations in plan
2. Proper fiscal management
3. Thorough and well-planned project evaluation
4. Interim and/or final reports (financial and descriptive)
5. Public recognition of the support received from Olive Tree Foundation
6. Site visits, if time and location permits
