Scholarship & Bursary Awards
The Olive Tree Foundation serves the Canadian community not only as a partner in philanthropy, but offers important initiatives that promote community development.
Every year, the Olive Tree Foundation (OTF) provides Scholarship and Bursary Awards to students entering full-time programs of study at a college or university in the upcoming academic year.
Since 2011, the Olive Tree Foundation has provided Scholarship and Bursary Awards to students entering full-time programs of study at a college or university in the upcoming academic year. These awards are funded by Olive Tree Foundation endowment funds, and are presented to successful recipients at our annual Gala Appreciation Dinner.
Currently, the Olive Tree Foundation distributes 5 Scholarship and Bursary Awards:
Mohamed and Opheera Nasir Leadership Scholarship – $1000
This scholarship is awarded annually to a high school graduate entering their first year of college or university. Recipients are chosen on the basis of exceptional leadership qualities, and social conscience as demonstrated by involvement in community service and/or charitable organizations, as well as academic excellence.
Faisal Ali Academic Excellence Scholarship – $1000
This award is presented to a high school graduate who has excelled in their academic studies during their final year of high school, and will be entering their first year of university or college.
Women’s Educational Bursary – $500
This award is presented to a graduating female Muslim high school student who has earned distinction in academic excellence and community engagement, and will be entering her first year of university or college.
Abdullah Ibn Umm Makhtum Honorary Bursary – $500
This award is for a graduating high school student with a disability who is entering a post-secondary institution.This bursary is named after a well-known companion of the Prophet Muhammad, peace be on him, who was blind and his life story has been a source of inspiration for Muslims with disability. The recipient is chosen for overcoming challenges and barriers faced as a result of their disability and for their in-school achievements and community involvement. Students with a physical, psychological, intellectual, developmental, learning or a sensory disability may be nominated.
Youth Action Bursary – $500
This award is presented to a graduating high school student entering their first year of post-secondary education who has taken consistent action to make a positive impact in the larger community.
